Report on the First Havurah Meeting

On Sunday night, 1/9/11 the first meeting of Miriam Mystical Rose took place.  What a glorious time for all.

There were 8 attendees which is very good for the first meeting and there will be most likely 7 to 10 attendees at our meetings.  Of course, it would be great if that number grew.

We started our meeting with Vespers and Intercessory prayer.  Then we made our introductions and each of us shared a little of how we were drawn to the Havurah and what we would like to get out of the Havurah.  The answers ranged from getting to know our Jewish roots to growing closer to our Lord and our Lady.  Also included was a desire to be able to discover and live out the calling and election of a Hebrew Catholic.  We talked about the possibility of celebrating the Jewish/Old Testament feasts in light of Christ.  There was a special desire to celebrate the Passover Seder in light of Christ and his Church.

Then we learned something about the history of the Association of Hebrew Catholics (AHC) and we were encouraged to visit their website, www.hebrewcatholic.org and sign up for the free sample copy of The Hebrew Catholic.  This is the journal of the AHC.

We were also encouraged to visit this blog and participate by commenting or even writing an article for the blog.  Everyone said that they had visited this blog but not yet had a chance to comment.  Hopefully more comments will follow.

We then opened up our book and began to read, The Crucified Rabbi, by Taylor Marshall.  Each of us read a page a time and we were encouraged to interject when we had questions or comments.  We were able to get through the introduction and part of the next chapter.  It was tough to stop but as promised we stopped about 8:50 pm and then finished with prayer.  At 9:00 pm the schmoozing began!  We had some light and not so light refreshments and had a good time of fellowship.  We decided that each month we would acknowledge and celebrate the birthdays for the month.  We had 3 January birthdays!

We have decided that we will use this time not only for study and fellowship but for prayer.  We are going to pray for each other and any needs that we have individually and within our families.  We will pray for the work of the AHC.  We will also pray for the salvation and conversion of hearts for our Jewish families, friends, and neighbors. We pray that the truth regarding the mystery of the Church and Israel would be proclaimed clearly and without any anti-Jewish sentiment. One of our attendees has a relative who is Jewish and she was able to give him a copy of The Crucified Rabbi.  We pray that God would lift the veil from his eyes to see his Messiah. Of course, we will pray for the salvation of all Israel in union with God's in Romans 11:25.

We are so grateful for all those who attended and the next meeting will on February 13.  So mark your calendars.  Our meeting will start a bit earlier so we can enjoy a dinner together.  Feel free to come. We will be sending out an email with the time and place.  Please let us know if you are coming and bringing guests so we will be sure to have enough for all.  Until then may God bless you and your families mightily.

Shalom in Yeshua and Miriam,
Gershon ben Sha'ul

  1. Great night, thanks to all! Pat and I would like to keep reading ahead. I'd love to have assigned pages then q/a or "dig in further" time. We have such precious little time and this book is so good, I think the discussions are going to be great. Thanks, Ken and Flora!
